On Free Comic Book Day 2024 (May 4), I was at a comic book shop in Dayton, Ohio, (
Bell, Book and Comic, great store) and met local indie artist Dan Barlow. He had a table and was promoting a special edition of his comic
Instant featuring a store-exclsuive cover. I bought an issue, asked him to sign it, and we satrted talking about his art and other projects. I casually mentioned, "Well, if you ever need an editor, let me know. I'm available." He got excited, put his email address in the comic and a year later we'd essentially finished writing our first comic together.
During that time, we started our second project, an idea Dan had as far back as 2008. I helped solidify the concept and wrote the story. Then I decided to try my hand at lettering. And then I ended up designing several extra creative pages, as well as the cover, which includes a new logo I'd created. And I colored a few of the other cover pages (insides and back), just to give it a try. The plan was to get funding via Kickstarter, which Dan had successfully done with his previous books, and I knew that having a unified brand presence and dedicated website would help with marketing. So, I got the domain and created the website, which I designed and coded.
